Longton High Phoenix Rises
Monday, March 19, 2007

6 Year 10 Engineering students with the support of a local artist – Anthony Hammond have designed and built a 1.2 metre sculpture of the schools phoenix. The bird which has been skillfully produced from aluminium sheet (kindly donated by Tony Walley, Vice Chair of Governors), which rotates with the wind, will very shortly be displayed in the quad.

The base of the phoenix has been constructed from interwoven withies to represent the rising of the flames. This has been a joint project within Art and Technology supported by our local artist and completed by Year 10 students which will be included in their GCSE Vocational qualifications.
