Initiatives and extra curricular activities currently include:-
1. Fresherwise (Y10 & Y11 Careers Mentoring)
Fresherwise personnel Asad Azeem and Naziyah Theseen are continuing to offer our BME students their services as mentors this academic year. Since last October they have been working with the Equal Opportunities Department in school on Tuesday mornings. Their brief is to mentor and provide stimulating career focus activities for our BME students in order to increase ambitions and motivation at KS4. This academic year the following have been taking place. :-
• Year 11 students were followed up after work experience on careers plans, KS4 work and any home/school issues. Everyone is now seen several times each term.
• Trips to local FE institutions have been arranged in tandem with Connexions. So far visits to St Thomas More and Stoke College have taken place and the feedback is positive.
• Year 10 students will have an introductory session in the summer term. It is hoped that Fresherwise will also do work experience visits with the Y10’s.
• They volunteered to attend Y10 & Y11 parents evenings and to try to establish home contact.
